Cruise and Dine on The Alba Restaurant Boat
19 February 2019
Trying new restaurants and having different dining experiences during each review is an amazing perk to our job, and it's always exciting to try something new! We were very excited when The Alba Restaurant invited us for a Cruise and Dining experience on their first of its kind restaurant boat, which offers incredible views paired with delicious food.

Measuring twenty-two meters in length, the Alba Restaurant Boat can accommodate 72 seated guests or 100 for cocktail functions – taking guests on cruises in the V&A Waterfront harbour. We chose the perfect Sunday in the Mother City for our lunch as it doesn't get any better than having amazing food while taking a cruise in the Table Bay harbour.
When you choose to dine with The Alba Restaurant, you can select from 4 dining options: The Bubbly Brunch Cruise, the Lunch Cruise, the Afternoon Cocktail Cruise and the Dinner Cruise. We chose the Lunch Cruise which includes bubbly on arrival and a three-course menu with wine pairing.

Our lunch cruise took place from 12PM-2PM and it's a fabulous two hours filled with food, wine and of course some of the best views in the world (in my opinion anyway!) Feast your eyes on these gourmet dishes:
STARTERS:

Baked Camembert with a berry reduction, figs, honey & spiced toasted walnuts.

Springbok carpaccio encrusted with rosemary, thyme & peppercorns with mixed baby greens, shaved Grana Padano, red onion & vine ripened tomatoes drizzled with extra virgin olive oil & a balsamic reduction.
The Springbok Carpaccio was definitely a favourite as most guests on the boat selected this as their starter and it was delicious so we recommend trying this one for sure!
MAINS:

Braised Springbok Shank slow roasted in mixed berry juice, accompanied by potato mash, caramelised onion & red cabbage.
Neither of us can resist a good springbok shank and the cabbage with this was absolutely delicious! The shank was paired with a great glass of Durbanville Hills Merlot - a match made in heaven.

Beef Fillet Medallions served with a mixed berry & roasted bone marrow jus, truffled mashed potato, grilled beetroot & mange-tout.
The Fillet was good, but out of the two mains, the Springbok Shank is definitely what we recommend.
Dessert:

Dark Chocolate Mousse topped with strawberries & Milk Chocolate Truffles rolled in pistachio with a touch of chilli.
The light mousse is the perfect ending to a meal and we loved the truffles!
Overall we really enjoyed our time on-board of The Alba Restaurant Boat. The service was good, the wine perfectly paired with the food and the food was delicious. If you're looking to try something new, this will definitely be something we recommend! It's also a great option for tourists!
